Automation systems like CQC 'talk' to devices using various types of connections. In some cases, CQC can only talk to the device but it doesn't talk back. In other cases, CQC can talk to the device and the device can talk back to CQC, so the conversation is two-way, unlike conversations with your significant other. The latter is far better because it allows CQC to ask the device what its status is, and in turn allows you to display this status on touch screens and to use that status when you want to create smarter automation solutions.
