Most software products are designed to run on a single machine. You can install them on more than one machine but those two installations of the product are completely separate and know nothing of each other. Other types of products, like CQC, are networked and are designed such that it can be run on multiple computing devices in the home, all of which are aware of each other. So, any devices that are connected to any CQC enabled computers in the home are available to any other CQC enabled computers. So you can see/control the home theater from the living room, or see/control what media is being played in the kitchen from your home office, and so forth. You can have multiple family members all simultaneously interacting with CQC and it will insure that their interactions are appropriately taken in order and don't step on each other's toes.
From the perspective of the person who is managing the automation system, the big advantage is that you can manage CQC from any computer. So if you happen to be in the bedroom and decide that you want to disable the sprinklers today, you can just do it from the PC in that room.
Because of its multi-user nature, CQC is also secure. So you can protect sensitive areas of the product from the children or other family members. This security is also important when you have openly available touch screens available in the home. It is important that these cannot be used to access anything other than the functionality intended.
